ProKarelia IT’S THE ENEMY! An open letter to BBC World Finnish troops had an enemy - totalitarian communism of the Soviet Union. In a news flash today, on 9 June 2004, 60 years from the last Soviet attack on Finland, BBC World did forgot the essential. When Finland joined the war theatre of WWII, it did so because there was an enemy. In August 1939, Stalin and Hitler literally divided Europe into two spheres of influence. Finland, the Baltic States, East Poland and Bessarabia were practically given to Stalin by Hitler. Finland, the Baltic States and Poland, all independent nations, were given an enemy by an illegal pact of two dictators. The enemy attacked all these countries. BBC World is a highly respected news channel, perhaps an even more respected than its global competitor, CNN. Thus, the world-wide audience expects accuracy and truth in the news coverage. Today, BBC World tells the world audience that Finland allied Germany in WWII. That is not entirely untrue, but Finland fought the war because there was an enemy. BBC World did not tell, that - the Soviet Union attacked Finland three times, in 1939, in 1941 and even in 1944, very much with American weaponry. - nor that Finland is the only newly independent, acknowledged new nation, whose national borders have been defined, not immediately but 30 years after independence, - nor that these new borders were result of the infamous Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, - nor that these new borders were drawn in 1940 by dictator Stalin, after an universally condemned attack on Finland on 30 November 1939 ("Winter War"). - nor that these attacks resulted in 420,000 displaced refugees and that an immense wealth was literally robbed from individuals, churches, private companies and the government of Finland, with no compensation, excuse nor apology given by either Soviets nor Russians, until today, - nor that Finnish people are discussing the return of Russian-occupied Finnish territory more than before. Yes, Finland and Germany had a common enemy, the totalitarian communism which was preparing a world revolution in practically all countries in the world, including Finland and Germany, and Finland and Germany did join forces in some battles along the Finno-Russian border region. But Finland fought an enemy, the totalitarian communist Soviet Union, who had received a "permission" to occupy the entire Finland from Adolf Hitler in 1939, in the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, and who did so, by taking, and by keeping even today, almost 13 per cent of acknowledged Finnish territory. ^ Takaisin ylös |
